How to Make the Most Out of Your Garage Space

The Maids • May 23, 2014

Your garage is probably not only the place where you park your car, but also the storage area for several tools, belongings, and other items which you do not use that often. Chances are, you simply put things in there without doing any normal housekeeping on them, and in time you will have no more space left to tuck anything else away. This tendency is quite common, but there are a number of things you can do to make the most out of your garage space.

Shelving systems and Cabinets: Instead of simply piling things on top of each other, consider installing some shelves. In this way, you will be adding more space, as the areas available on the upper parts of the walls can be put to good use. Self-standing shelves are a good option for garages. You can also opt for cabinets. Make sure to take into account the weight and the size of the items you will be storing on the shelves or in the cabinets. This will help you to choose the right sizes and materials.

Trusses: If you have no ceiling in your garage, make sure you make good use of the trusses under the roof. Just fix flat boards across the trusses and use them as shelves for those items you use very rarely.

Pegboards: Chances are, you have many tools dispersed all over the garage. Why not gather them all and try to organize them a bit? Pegboards hung on garage walls are a great way of doing this. Some tools can be hung to the hangers and hooks and you will be able to see them easily instead of rummaging all over the garage to try to find them.

Outdoor sheds: There may be some items that can be removed from the garage and placed in an outdoor shed. It is very easy to build a shed as you can find several plans online. Otherwise, you can buy a ready-made one, such as those made from vinyl, which are really affordable. In this way you will be making more space in your garage.

If the garage cleaning is overwhelming, some house cleaning services, like The Maids of New London, offer garage cleaning as an additional service!
