Aromatherapy is the use therapeutic products, such as herbs, lotions and oils to promote physical and mental well-being. It helps you relax, be happier, healthier and eliminate stress. The commonly used aromatherapy products are candles, soaps and essential oils. Aromatherapy is used to treat insomnia, asthma, eczema, menstrual complications and many other illnesses.

  • Massage aromatherapy

This kind of aromatherapy applies the use of oils that have been infused into a form of a lotion usually massaged onto the skin. It includes olfactory aromatherapy, compresses and baths. Olfactory aromatherapy uses rom spray, candles or soaps to break up essential oils so as they breathed in.

  • Aromatology

This is a controversial type of aromatherapy mainly done in France. It is referred to as aromatic medicine practice that requires great training. This type of treatment does include massage, though the essential oils topically applied on the skin. The controversial part of aromatology treatment is that it can sometimes be applied in the vagina or rectum.

  • Cosmetic aromatherapy

Cosmetic aromatherapy involves infusing the hair care products and essential oils into the skin. You can do it a shower or bath; it is also part of a number of facials. However, this type should be done with a lot of care because some suppliers may use fragrances instead of essential oils. Unadulterated essential oils are very beneficial to the skin because they help tone, clean and moisturize as opposed to fragrances.

  • Clinical aromatherapy

This kind of aromatherapy is closely associated with massage aromatherapy as essential oils can be applied on the skin. However, it is advisable that only qualified professionals are required to conduct clinical aromatherapy. Misuse of essential oils and massage techniques, particularly on the skin, can cause a lot of discomfort to a person.

The most popular aromatherapy oils include:

  • Rosemary essential oil
  • Cedar essential oil
  • German chamomile essential oil
  • Bergamot essential oil
  • Lavender essential oil

There are many supplies used for practicing aromatherapy at home found at many retailers; but, it is advisable to do proper research on the products and ensure you consult an educated professional before you begin practicing any kind of aromatherapy.
